Obesity in children and teens (meaning a BMI-for-age above the 95th percentile) can occur as a result of different combinations of reasons, including environmental and genetic factors. However, it’s important to realise that weight gain, whether leading to mild or severe clinical obesity, typically occurs only when a person consumes more calories than he/she expends. A large calorie surplus is typically needed to cause obesity.

There is an epidemic of childhood obesity in the United States and throughout the world. Experts estimate one in five children between the ages of 6 and 17 are overweight. Millions of these children face a higher risk much earlier in life of developing obesity-related disorders, such as diabetes and heart disease.

Studies have shown obese children have an exceptionally hard time losing weight and following through with lifestyle changes in adulthood when their health, and even their lives, may depend on them – all the more reason why parents should encourage kids to remain physically active throughout childhood.

Childhood obesity is the result of an interaction between food, state of mind, family and the environment.

An imbalance between intake and output. Intake: excessive consumption of fast foods and unhealthy food choices. Output: less time spent playing outside, more time spent on a computer, playing video games or watching TV.

The Family. The risk of becoming obese is greatest among children who have two obese parents. This may be due to powerful genetic factors, the manner in which the child i

s raised, parental modeling of both eating and exercise behaviors. One half of parents of elementary school children never exercise vigorously.

Low-energy Expenditure. The average American child spends several hours each day watching television; time which in previous years might have been devoted to physical pursuits. Obesity is greater among children and adolescents who frequently watch television, not only because little energy is expended while viewing but also because of simultaneous consumption of high-calorie snacks. Only about one-third of elementary children have daily physical education, and less than than one-fifth have extracurricular physical activity programs at their schools. The American Academy of Pediatrics urges parents to take walks or otherwise get physical with their children at least once a week, to make up for shrinking levels of physical education in schools.

Diet Management

Fasting or extreme caloric restriction is not advisable for children. Not only is this approach psychologically stressful, but it may adversely affect growth and the child’s perception of “normal” eating. Balanced diets with moderate caloric restriction, especially reduced dietary fat, have been used successfully in treating obesity (Dietz, 1983). Nutrition education may be necessary. Diet management coupled with exercise is an effective treatment for childhood obesity (Wolf et al., 1985).

Prevention of Childhood Obesity

Parent education is one of the best ways to prevent obesity in children. Preventing obesity is far easier than treating it. Parent education should focus on promotion of breastfeeding, recognition of signals of satiety, selection of low-fat snacks, good exercise habits and monitoring of television viewing.

Alien

Author Bio
Read out Weight loss.

Obesity incidences among American children have dangerously climbed from 5% in the 1980s to 15.3% in 2000. Studies reveal that childhood obesity is likely to continue on to adulthood which translates into higher risks of obesity related diseases.

While many diet programs, exercises and drug therapy combat obesity with much needed fierce commitment, some fight child obesity at beginning with prevention. There is a marked connection with child nutrition and obesity.

If the factors concerning the prevalence of obesity are to be studied separately, the primary concern would be food and nutrition. Obesity partially relies on the nutritive factor of a subject’s food intake. A child requires a chunk load of nutrition as it grows but are we truly giving them what they need? Again it must be made aware that child nutrition and obesity are related in such a way that poor nutrition leads to obesity.

The concern of child nutrition and obesity originates from excessive eating and no or minimum exercise. Most of the excess food eaten by kids or even adults are the famed high- calorie and high-fat foods that no matter how dangerous they are to our health, there’re still there.

To begin a good fight against child obesity, we must be armed with the right nutrition for children. Remember that growing kids require a good amount of energy from a well balanced diet. The basics of the food groups now prevails. Child nutrition must consist of fiber, vitamins and mineral content, carbohydrates and protein. High fiber is best sourced from whol

e wheat and other grains.

This is also very important to an overweight or obese child. This type requires a good bulk of fiber in his/her system to help lose the excess weight. A child’s nutrition is never complete without the 5-times-a-day serving of fruit and a similar serving of vegetables accompanied by dairy products, fish and the occasional red meat.

If you now recall your old health class lectures, this is the basic nutrition required to maintain a healthy body. we are simply returning to a tweaked version of the basic nutrition requirements. an overweight or obese child’s nutrition also require a low-carbohydrate and low-fat intake. Remember that the excess calories and fat are major contributors to obesity. Also increase the amount of antioxidants that help flush out what needs to come out.

You should be able to determine what lacked in the child’s nutrition before the diet. Once you know them and realize the impact of child nutrition and obesity, you’ll be able to provide a child’s proper nutrition. Lessen what isn’t necessary and increase what is needed. This may be a small piece of the puzzle but it generates significant changes in the battle between child nutrition and obesity.

Karin Manning

Author Bio
I have conducted an honest review of all Hoodia weight loss products which claim to give almost miraculous weight loss results for dieters worldwide.

Though obesity does not directly cause death but itâ??s the diseases caused by obesity like high blood pressure, cancer or diabetes that plays a crucial role in premature passing away of the obese people. The prevention of obesity is extremely important if we take into account the hazards and disadvantages associated with it. Here we will discuss some easy ways to prevent child obesity.

- The proper education of pregnant women is very important as generally they develop health awareness during pregnancy. If proper habits of eating and living are developed during this period, it is likely that they may continue for lifetime. And besides that afterwards their children may also imbibe them. Those babies who develop correct habits in their childhood are saved from obesity in their later life.

- There should be proper diet control during the first year of infantâ??s life. Generally the fat in the human body is in the form of independent adipose tissues. Usually fat cells are formed during the first year of an infantâ??s life, and their number does not increase afterwards. So, if an infant is overfed during the first year of its life, the number of fat cells exceeds the normal limit. Later on, fat gets deposited in these cells, eventually causing obesity. In other words, if the number of fat cells is not allowed to exceed normal limits, the chances of developing obesity are also reduced.

- The large intake of carbohydrates plays a crucial role in causing obesity. If an infant is not overfed with carbohydrates during the first year of his life,

the possibility of his becoming obese later on are reduced almost nil. In short, do not let the child develop carbohydrate addiction. Right from the beginning, encourage him to cultivate the habit of taking proper and balanced diet.

- For a child, breastfeeding is very helpful in fighting against obesity. Several researches show those breasts fed babies are less obese than those fed on external milk.

- Always insist that your child should chew his food properly. His food should not be so soft that he can gulp it down his throat without making any effort to chew it.

- Sometimes, parents donâ??t let their children participate in sports or other physical activities. They are always afraid that their child will be hurt if he indulges in any such activity. This lack of activity may develop obesity in your child.

Disclaimer: This article is not meant to provide health advice and is for general information only. It only requires a little knowledge and a little more activity.

As obesity grows in Foxhall, DC, so does awareness. There are many programs across the nation that strive to bring awareness to the issue. And education may be one of the major factors in combating obesity and encouraging weight loss for those who are already overweight. Many hospitals support awareness programs and even offer intervention for people who are concerned about their weight. By taking steps to further the education process, prevention can play into the cure. Obesity is a disease like any other, but it is one that is far easier to cure. The problems caused by obesity can be far more dangerous.

Weight loss is not as hard as many people may believe. While it is far easier to be educated on how to prevent becoming obese, fixing the problem is far from difficult. For many people it simply means changing their diet or getting a little more exercise. These do not have to be life changing criteria. In fact, learning

to cook so that a person can either eat a healthier diet themselves or provide their family with a healthier diet can even be fun. Many exercises that lead to the most effective weight loss can be even more fun. They do not have to require hours of excruciating and difficult weight lifting. Some can be resistance training such as swimming or aerobic exercises such as dancing or skiing.

With obesity becoming so prevalent in Foxhall, DC and the rest of America, it is important that education and prevention become a priority. Weight loss does not have to be a horrible experience, but it is one that can be avoided altogether. By providing children with education and proper nutrition habits, it is possible to ensure that future generations do not continue to expand the problem of obesity. Prevention always starts at home and the case is no different with obesity. By teaching kids to eat healthy, they also learn how to take care of themselves better. A healthier diet in childhood will transfer over to adulthood. Eating healthy and nutritious foods will become common, not eating fast food. If a young adult looks twice at a fast food burger, they already have a better chance at avoiding the obesity epidemic.

Josef_ Brandenburg

Author Bio
Josef Brandenburg is a Foxhall weight loss expert that specializes in helping normal, busy people in Foxhall, DC create the bodies they want in the time that they actually have.<br

Today, science has confirmed the link, with overwhelming evidence that people who lead active lifestyles are less likely to die early, or to experience major illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes and colon cancer.

Obesity and poor physical fitness constitute a health problem affecting an increasing number of children. Childhood obesity and poor physical fitness are associated with insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, blood lipid abnormalities, and high blood pressure in later life, according to background information in the article. The causes of childhood obesity include a pervasive “toxic” environment that facilitates increased caloric intake and reduced physical activity. In order to alter the children’s environment, it is suggested, an effective strategy for prevention and treatment of childhood obesity must be pervasive and collaborative. The school setting is an attractive starting point for a collaborative effort.

Eye Exercise

This eye exercise is as simple as it sounds. Whenever it occurs to you that you’ve been spending too much time staring at the monitor, purposely shift your vision to look at the weave of the fabric on your sleeve or the poster on the wall or the tree across the street.

Exercise tip for an exercise benefit:

Whenever you and your spouse or friends have free time, use it to go for a hike, a day of fun with the kids in the park, etc. When kids are at a park you’ll get a lot of exer<div

In combination with a balanced diet, regular activity can help to maintain a healthy weight. It can even boost self-confidence and reduce the risk of depression.

How much is enough?

For an adult, regular, moderate intensity physical activity means using up about an extra 200 calories per day, most days of the week. This equates to about 30 minutes of activity, such as a two-mile brisk walk, that should make you feel warm and mildly out of breath. During moderate intensity activity, you should still be able to talk without panting in between your words.

James C.Cameer

No related posts.

California Schools

Childhood Obesity Prevention

California schools

Education
<guid

All across the country there is an increasing emphasis placed on early learning. Parents in California Schools desire preparation for their children at younger ages for the academics and atmosphere of school. California Schools have implemented initiatives to ensure that preparation. The First 5 California School Readiness Initiative has garnered support from the large state since its beginning in 2002 and was granted $206 million to fund programs that help transition young children into the school system.

The First 5 Initiative of California Schools focused on early care and education, parenting and support services, health and social services, school readiness for children/school capacity, and program infrastructure, administration and evaluation. Ending in 2006, this initiative completed its purpose and was followed by other California School readiness initiatives. California Schools are invested in the idea that preschools have tremendous influence and power.

The First 5 Initiative Of California Schools has formulated a task force that also branches into other areas of student help. California Schools have earned an A on their childhood obesity report cards, owing in part to the California First 5 obesity prevention campaign. The group constructed ads targeting parents and warning of the dangers accompanying obesity. Physical education programs have become more prominent in California Schools in keeping with the struggle against obesity, particularly in young children. First 5 California is attempting to stop the obesity trend in Californi<div

This program helps struggling families in California Schools receive educational childcare, enroll more students, find transportation and improve test scores.

In October 2005, California First 5 found that a serious percentage of students entering kindergarten lack the necessary skills to succeed in California Schools. In an effort to allow children the chance to begin on equal footing in grade school, the California First 5 has acknowledged that all previous student preparation is simply the groundwork of what must eventually be achieved. California Schools’ children who participate in early childhood programs are more successful than those children that don’t. Therefore, the California First 5 has doubled their dedication and hopes to alert more parents to the seriousness of childhood education. California First 5 encourages parents to read regularly to their children and be aware of the benefits of preschool.

California Schools recognize the geographic sprawl of their state. In order to unify and aid incoming students, progress must be made in the partnership between parents and the school systems. California First 5 works to comprehensively alert parents and makes efforts to keep them aware of urgent trends, such as the youth obesity crisis in America. As shown in the results of past initiatives, California Schools have succeeded in their agendas primarily due to parent involvement and the success of upcoming programs will continue to depend upon parental participation.

Patricia Hawke

Author Bio
Patricia Hawke is a staff writer for Schools K-12, providing free, in-depth reports on all U.S. public and private K-12 schools. Also, 4.5 million kids under 18 smoke regularly – including 10 percent of eighth-graders. With 70 percent of cancer cases directly attributable to diet and smoking, it’s important to teach kids early on the importance of good health sense.

With that goal in mind, the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation created “Dr. Health’nstein’s Body Fun,” a free, online computer game that teaches children how to make healthy choices about food and exercise at home and at school. The game gives students a chance to participate in simulated sports activities and to get advice on choosing sensible foods out of vending machines. “Dr. Health’nstein’s Body Fun” is full of other important nutrition tips, too.

“Dr. Health’nstein’s Body Fun” produces outstanding results in schools and has a profound effect on th<div

It is caused as a result of the unhealthy fast food lifestyle and eating habits of the modern day youth.

These people suffer from very bad metabolism rate that result in accumulation of calories. Regular exercises and raw foods should be introduced as a part of daily diet to improve the rate of metabolism and hence bring about a loss in weight. Also foods rich in fiber would result in draining out of the fat that gets accumulated in the body. Oatmeal is rich in fiber. Water should be taken in large quantities.

One could get involved in any sort of exercise that would be beneficial. It could be swimming, brisk walking, jogging or even dancing. Exercises like yoga and taichi could be very beneficial.

Obesity is also common these days in children and young adults. The cause of childhood obesity is a complex issue. There are clearly biological and genetic factors involved, as has been shown by a number of studies of twins and adopted children. The bulk of research in this area supports a biological component to the development of obesity, finding monozygotic twins (identical, from the same egg) to be closer in body fat and weight than dizygotic twins (fraternal, from separate eggs). Adopted children have been shown to be closer in weight to their biological parents than to their adoptive parents.

By a proper diet, regular exercise and healthy habits, obesity can be<div
